At Bethel Kids, we believe that God lovingly invites all of us into His family. So, at Bethel, we want every kid to have fun connecting with others and with God in a safe and secure environment. To ensure that Bethel Kids is a fun, safe, and secure place for kids from all backgrounds and abilities, we have implemented the following safety measures:
1. Background check. Every person who serves must first have a background check. In addition to the background check, every volunteer is vetted through Reference calls.
2. No one is ever alone with a child/ minor. Our volunteers are never alone with the child - not in a classroom, not in a car, and no exceptions. There must be a minimum of two volunteers in each room. Bethel Kids volunteers have been through training and are aware of the adult-to-child ratios and safety precautions they must take when working with every child.
3. No one goes in the bathroom with a child. Our Bethel Kids volunteers are serious about not being alone with a child.
4. Security name tags. We have a simple check-in/check-out process that ensures no one, not even a pastor, can take a child without a matching name tag. Allergy information is collected during check-in, and any concerns are communicated to our volunteers.
5. Security Team. Bethel Church has a trained volunteer security team that is present at every Bethel Kids activity. The security team checks doors, monitors hallways through cameras, and ensures all exit doors are secure. They will also be visible, walking the hallways during activities. In the event of an incident, the security team will provide an incident report.
6. Windows. Each of our Bethel Kids rooms has windows that open into the hallway.
7. Lockdown and emergency plan. Each Bethel Kids room has a posted lockdown/emergency plan; our volunteers are trained and know what to do in different situations.
Future Security Items
1. Lock the children’s ministry doors once activities begin. To ensure the safety and security of Bethel Kids, the doors leading into the Bethel Kids area will be locked and staffed by volunteers. Securing the Bethel Kids ministry area will slow down an intruder targeting that area.
2. Alarm/Delay Doors. Bethel Kids is a fun, safe, and secure place for Kids of all abilities. Alarm/delay doors help ensure that a child cannot leave the Bethel Kids area without alerting our volunteers and security.
3. Designated Kids Bathrooms. We have bathrooms inside our Bethel Kids area designated as ‘kids’ only’ bathrooms (with a kids’ only sign on the door).
4. Security cameras. We have security cameras in each classroom.
